Stand Up To Cancer Raises Over $100 Million
Last Friday viewers from all around the world tuned in to watch all three major U.S. networks unite with celebrities to raise over $100 million in the fight against cancer.
The telethon aired September 5th and the unprecedented alliance of NBC, CBS, and ABC networks reached an estimated 170 countries and territories. “The statistics are staggering,” said Charles Gibson, anchor of ABC News’s “World News Tonight with Charles Gibson,” when the campaign was launched in May. “Cancer claims one person every minute every day in the United States.”
In an effort to create a united American front celebrities donated their bodies. Desperate Housewives’ Dana Delany let a camera crew follow her through a breast examination. Former NBA star Charles Barkley was filmed going in for a colonoscopy, and television comedy star Brad Garrett underwent an on-the-air prostate exam.
