One of our most important launches yet, this official movie website marks a departure for online marketing for the wildly successful Spider-Man movie franchise. Whereas the official movie sites for the previous two movies were community and feature-minded, this is the first Spidey site that is built to be enjoyed by broadband audiences as a character-driven, immersive experience — complete with a background soundtrack and motion graphics intros for each character. It’s a site that couldn’t have been built for the second movie, when household broadband penetration was considerably lower. And the timing is perfect: the blockbuster third movie introduces new characters that each relate to Peter Parker (and our other returning characters) in powerful and unexpected ways.

Many members of the Trigger team also worked on the official movie campaigns for Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2, giving us roots into Spidey marketing that go back as far as 1999.

Here are a few highlights of the content in our immersive site:

  • Motion-graphic character intros for Spidey, MJ, Venom, Sandman, Harry, Gwen Stacy and black-suited Spidey.
  • A 15-level 3D game: fight New Goblin, Sandman and Venom without giving in to the dark powers of the black suit.
  • Desktop downloadables: screensavers, wallpapers, buddy icons and Yahoo! widget.
  • Desktop widget includes a live RSS Movie Blog feed, a “client-pull” movie photo flipbook, and movie countdown timer.
  • PSP downloadables: trailers, flipbooks, and wallpapers.
  • iPod downloadables: trailers and iPod scrubbers.
  • Site Poll: the persistent “Battle Within” polls site visitors on movie themes like “Can a man confront the forces of darkness without giving into them?”. The poll gives real-time results by day, week and month, and changes the color of the site based on the answers.
  • A persistent music soundtrack accompanies the site experience.
  • The movie blog keeps fans up-to-date with news, webisodes and events via an RSS feed. Thanks to Six Apart for their kind words.
